An interview with Foti Hadji about his Arabic learning journey. Foti is a student of Arabic language. He is a second generation Greek-Australian and he studies Ancient and Medieval history. He first became interested in the Arab World whilst he was at high school when he studied the 20th century Middle Eastern History.

Foti started researching more about the Arab World, and he discovered a long and rich history, great musical and literary traditions and cultures that were not so dissimilar to his own. When he started his university studies at the University of Melbourne in 2012, he took the opportunity to start learning Arabic.

He studied for four years in Melbourne, and he also had the opportunity to study in the Sultanate of Oman for two months to improve his spoken Arabic. Now, whilst he has stopped studying Arabic formally, he makes sure he reads Arabic books and poetry, listens to Arabic music, and speaks with Arabs whenever he finds the chance.

Foti is currently undertaking a Masters Degree of Art Curatorship and Museum Studies, and with his specialisations in Egyptian and Levantine history and art, he hopes to return to the Middle East and applies his knowledge there in the every-growing museum industry.
