More Victorian voters with disabilities or English language difficulties are likely to participate in the November State election due to a ground-breaking app – Voters Voice™.

The app is an initiative of the Victorian Electoral Commission and is available on tablets and mobiles.

Electoral Commissioner Warwick Gately says that the app was created to provide a better voting experience for people with complex communication needs, including help to vote in person.

‘There are many people with complex communication needs who have either not voted in the past, or voted by post due to barriers in communication. With Voters Voice™, the VEC is giving these voters the chance to be heard in a way that is more accessible and convenient to their needs,’ Mr Gately said.

People who can benefit from the enhanced app include people with low literacy, English language difficulties, people who use Auslan, and people with complex communication difficulties
