The data retention scheme was announced in 2014 as part of the Abbott government's efforts to combat terrorism. It requires internet service providers and phone companies to retain their customers' metadata for a period of two years, including a range of phone, email and internet records.JOURNALISTS were exxempt from this scheme unless a court warrant was obtained.recently the federal Police have admitted wrongfully accessing the metadata of a journalist.SBS Arabis 24 has shed some light on this issue with Law Expert Hashem Al Hussayni in regards to privacy Laws and metadata policies.
