There are reports about hunger strikes in Manus Detention Centre. Abbas is an Iraqi detainee says a few detainees stopped eating and drinking for about a month now with no adequate medical or psychological care. He knows of two cases at present. Two of his friends, an Iranian and an Iraqi, are struggling between life and death. He witnesses the health of his Iraqi friend deteriorating as he continues to refuse food and water, and the desperate interference by other detainees who try hard to counsel him. Meanwhile, he says, the Iranian detainee was transferred to another camp, one that caters for difficult situations. He also witnessed many cases where many detainees are provoked into situations that result in administration of medications that 'calm them down to the point that they are not able to walk'. He says that the detainees' condition worsens by the day after three years of detention.
