 The Australian Monarchists League says it's ready to fight hard against Labor plans for a republic.

 Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has pledged 160-million dollars towards a plebiscite on the issue, if Labor wins the next election.

 Australia's Republic Movement has welcomed the plan - saying a growing number of people will want a voice about the country's head of state.

 But Monarchists League National Chairman, Philip Benwell says there'll be growing opposition to the plan.
