Melbourne's emergency loudspeaker system used to direct the public during terror attacks has undergone testing. Police have tested the system at the State Library on Swanston Street. Sixty-five speaker sets have been installed at sites including Federation Square, Flinders St Station and the Bourke Street mall, with more than 90 sites to be completed by the end of 2018. Acting Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police Shane Patton says the new tool is a quick way to alert the community of any imminent risks.
