Federal Immigration Minister David Coleman has announced three new visa categories.
A new temporary Sponsored Parent Visa will give parents and grandparents a new pathway to visit Australia to spend time with their families for a continuous period of up to five years.
Changes to the Minister of Religion Labor Agreement will allow religious institutions to sponsor overseas workers as so-called "religious assistants".
Previously, that visa would only allow fully-fledged ministers of religion to apply to work in the most senior position in a religious establishment.
Under the new measures, the nominee can work in any senior position.
A third new class of visa will allow aged care providers to employ people with the skills needed to care for elderly people from migrant communities.
