Prime Minister Scott Morrison has met with key staff from the public service in Canberra and told them he'll be setting clear performance targets.
It comes a week after the coalition announced it would keep the so-called "public service efficiency dividend" in place for another two years, effectively cutting $1.5 billion from the public service, so it can pay for its election promises.
The efficiency dividend involves government departments cutting costs. Mr Morrison says Australians expect the public service to operate efficiently.
