A community vigil will be held on Friday for murdered Melbourne woman, Courtney Herron. Ms Herron's body was found in Royal Park in Parkville on Saturday morning.

27-year-old Henry Hammond faced the Melbourne Magistrates' Court yesterday, charged with one count of murder over Ms Herron's death.

A fundraising appeal has been set up online for her funeral with almost half of the $10,000 goal raised within nine hours.

The organisers of the GoFundMe page say they set up the fundraiser to save the 25-year-old's family from further grief from having to find money to bury her.
