Australians in eastern states can expect a higher risk of blackouts this summer.

The Australian Energy Market Operator's [[AEMO]] latest Electricity Statement of Opportunities says more electricity supply or other actions will be needed to meet high demands.

The A-E-M-O says a key reason for the risk of blackouts is the failing reliability of ageing coal-fired power stations.

The risk is expected to be particularly high in Victoria.
