Labor is criticising the coalition over rising power prices, after new data revealed on average they have increased by 158 per cent since 2015.

The opposition is calling on energy Minister Angus Taylor to reinstate the National Energy Guarantee, which aimed to save households $550 a year.

Labor energy spokesperson Mark Butler says Australian families and businesses are suffering under the rising cost of power bills.

He says it is up to Mr Taylor to keep his promise and reduce the price.
