Trade Minister Simon Birmingham says the latest figures on Australia's booming resource exports reflect the value of trade agreements and the competitiveness of the sector.
Increased export volumes of liquid natural gas, coal and iron ore have helped to deliver Australia's first current account surplus in 44 years.
The account has increased from a $2.9 billion deficit to a $5.9 billion surplus in the June quarter - the first surplus since June 1975.
Minister Birmingham says he is hopeful the gains will eventually spread to wages growth.
