Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Asian soccer chiefs have called on the Thai government to release footballer Hakeem al-Araibi.
This comes after Bahrain applied to extradite Australian refugee Hakeem al-Araibi who is currently being detained in a Thai prison.
Bahrain accuses Mr al-Araibi of vandalising a police station during the 2012 Arab Spring Uprising, a crime they want him to serve ten years in jail for.
The Australian Prime Minister's office has confirmed that Mr Morrison had written a letter to his Thai counterpart asking that al-Araibi be allowed to return home.
The Asian Football Confederation, which had been criticised for its silence on the case, also wrote to the Thai Prime Minister.
