Prime Minister Scott Morrison is expected to meet Fijian authorities to discuss I-S member Neil Prakash's citizenship when he arrives in the country today.
Fiji says Neil Prakash is not a Fijian citizen, meaning Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton's announcement in December Mr Prakash had been stripped of his Australian citizenship would be unlawful.
The Australian government cannot revoke someone's citizenship if it renders them stateless.
Fiji is reportedly angry over what they see as attempts by the Australian government to pass Mr Prakash on to them.
Opposition leader Bill Shorten says the government's handling of the situation has been sloppy.
