Nationals MP Andrew Broad proposed a solution for the housing crisis. The suggestion allows renters to buy a home without having to pay a deposit, if the money payed equates with the mortgage repayments.

To speak more about this topic, the morning program, Good Morning Australia, on SBS Arabic 24 interviewed MP Broad to see where he got the idea from and whether it will be taken seriously within the government.

The MP explained that the idea was inspired from a lady who applied to a 100 houses to rent, “She was struggling financially, but she had managed to be a perfect renter for three years, and in the regional town she was living in, the repayments on a new house would have actually been less than what she would have paid to rent a house”.

The MP said that he is keen on providing the people with vehicles to achieve house ownership.

The MP emphasized that he “understands the property market very very deeply”, being a farm owner himself at the age of 22.

More details on the proposed Rent-to-buy scheme in the podcast.
