News bulletin of the day

Nationals MP Andrew Broad has stepped down from his position as assistant minister to party leader Michael McCormack after allegations he used online websites to meet young women while on work trips.

The allegations, published in New Idea magazine, suggest Mr Broad, who is married, sent messages to a woman in Hong Kong where he lied about his age.

They then met for dinner, after which he started sending texts of a more sexual nature.

Mr Broad denies the claims and has referred them to the Australian Federal Police, who have begun an investigation.

Mr McCormack says Mr Broad was right to resign from the Morrison ministry.
