Counting will continue in seven in-doubt seats today as the coalition edges closer to forming a majority government.

The government looks to have secured at least 73 seats - still three short of the 76 needed to rule without the support of crossbenchers in a hung parliament.

The Prime Minister has spent time in his southern Sydney electorate in the wake of his surprise win.

Meanwhile, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says the government wants to ensure Australians earning under $126,000 soon get promised tax cuts of up to $1080.
