News bulletin of the day

Heading into the final two weeks of parliament for the year, the Coalition is trailing Labor by a two-party-preferred split of 55-45 in the latest opinion poll.

The latest Newspoll, by The Australian newspaper, suggests, while Prime Minister Scott Morrison has grown in popularity, he has been unable to win back Coalition voters.

The federal Coalition's poll results suggest a similar election outcome is looming at a national level as was recorded for the conservative parties over the weekend in Victoria.

Labor's landslide state victory has moderate Liberal MPs warning the Federal Government must halt its shift to the right if it is going to avoid a similar wipe-out.
