Michael Daley has stood aside as New South Wales Labor leader following the party's poor showing in the weekend's state election.
Mr Daley says he'll stand aside until a leadership ballot is held after the federal election due in May.
His performance, including in a video released in the final week of the campaign in which he made anti-Asian comments, has been blamed for the party's poorer-than-expected performance.
But Mr Daley says he should retain the leadership when a ballot is held. Deputy leader Penny Sharpe will lead the party until the ballot.
