Shaoquett Moselmane who is the first Muslim MP to be elected to NSW Parliament said in an interview with "Good morning Australia" on SBS Arabic24 that the meeting was in fact a Labor Action Committee meeting not a multicultural meeting. Mr Moselmane added that he was 'set up' by Vic Alhadeff who didn't say at that time that he had an invitation and allowed the situation to be escalated.
The chief executive of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, said he was refused entry by Mr Moselmane despite having received an invitation from NSW Labor general secretary Kaila Murnian and secretary of Unions NSW Mark Morey. Mr Alhadeff said he was attending to represent Jewish people but Mr Moselmane found that was not sufficient reason for him to attend.
Mr Alhadeff told ABC News that the meeting was promoted as a "conduit between the multicultural community and the Labor Party and union movement". He added that Mr Moselmane who is "a senior person within the party, who holds the position of whip, remains in that position and knowingly refuses entry to the CEO of the Jewish Board of Deputies, defying his own party leadership who've extended the invitation."
Mr Alhadeff expressed his concern at not receiving an invitation in the first place from Mr Moselmane and said "that approach, that attitude is of concern and that concern remains."
