The New South Wales Transport minister is pleading with union workers to abandon their industrial action scheduled to begin today (thurs).

Members of the Rail, Tram and Bus Union voted yesterday (wed) to go ahead with an overtime ban, as well as a proposed 24-hour strike on Monday (Jan 29), over pay and conditions.

It followed a poll by the union - labelled "illegitimate" by Transport Minster Andrew Constance  - which asked members via text message whether they wanted to accept the latest pay package from management.

Mr Constance says the industrial action is unfair to commuters.
