Australians are being urged to avoid sugary drinks to reduce their risk of cancer.

Research shows obesity increases the risk of 13 different types of cancer, including bowel and breast cancer.

But less than half of all Australians are aware of the link. The chief executive of Cancer Council Victoria, Todd Harper,  has called for more awareness on the issue.
