The Oud is the leading eastern musical instrument. The modern oud and the European lute are considered the ancestors of the guitar. The oldest pictorial record of a lute dates back over 5000 years ago, in northern Syria and Mesopotamia. The oud has a particularily long tradition in Iraq , Egypt and Syria. It was said that oud places the temperament in equilibrium and calms and revives hearts.
