Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has grave doubts about whether Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad can have a continuing role in Syria if a peaceful solution is found to the conflict there. Mr Turnbull says his horrendous, criminal actions, including gassing women, children and babies, surely disqualifies him from a continuing role. Mr Turnbull says it's now is up to the United Nations Security Council and Russia in particular, to bring the conflict to an end.

Swedish police have found a suspicious device in the truck which was driven into a department store in the Swedish capital of Stockholm, on Friday.

Four people were killed, and fifteen people injured, when the hijacked beer truck ploughed into pedestrians.

Police say they have the driver of the truck in custody, identifying him as a 39-year-old from Uzbekistan, who had been known to security services.

National Police Commissioner Dan Eliasson says a device was found in the driver's seat, but it is not known whether it was a bomb.

The Liberal party has claimed victory in both of the New South Wales seats it was fighting to retain, but is on track to suffer double-digit swings.

Liberal candidates James Griffin and Felicity Wilson declared victory in the northern Sydney electorates of Manly and North Shore.

Meanwhile, Labor's Liesl Tesch is celebrating winning the New South Wales seat of Gosford.
