News bulletin in Arabic for the day

Australian-based refugee footballer Hakeem Al-Araibi has been released from a Bangkok prison and is on his way back to Australia, after Thai authorities dropped an extradition case against him.

The 25-year-old was detained in Bangkok in November over alleged vandalism offences in his native Bahrain.

Former socceroo Craig Foster, who led a campaign to release Mr Al-Araibi, says he will only feel full relief once the footballer is back in Melbourne.

Foreign Minister Marise Payne has thanked all of those involved in freeing Mr Al-Araibi.
