Rugby Australia has terminated Israel Folau's Wallabies contract after the player posted homophobic comments on his social media account on Wednesday.
In the posts on his Instagram and Twitter accounts, Folau declared homosexuals, drunks, adulterers, atheists and other sinners would go to Hell.
Rugby Australia Chief Executive Raelene Castle says while Rugby Australia respects Folau's religious beliefs, the posts were unacceptable and inconsistent with the values of the sport.
She says rugby is a sport which welcomes all regardless of race, religion, sexuality and gender.
A sentiment shared by Japan's rugby captain Michael Leitch, who has publically called out Israel Folau for using social media to preach his views.
