Samih Al-Qasim : The Voice Of Land And Resistance

Samih Al-Qasim Was born in 1939 and passed away on the 19th of August 2014. He came from a Druze Palestinian family from the town of Rameh in the Upper Galilee. Samih Al-Qasim was an Arab poet whose work is well known throughout the Arab world. His powerful poetry is heavily influenced by the struggle of the Palestinian people against Israeli occupation. Al-Qasim published several volumes and collections of poetry. In his book "About principles and Art", he wrote : "While Iwas still at primary school the Palestinian tragedy occurred. I regard that date as the date of my birth, because the first images I can remember are of the 1948 events. My thoughts and images spring from the number 48".
