A survey of 2000 people has found three-quarters of respondents believe Australia doesn't need any more people.

The Australian Population Research Institute survey also found nearly half of those surveyed support a partial ban on Muslim immigration, with 54 percent supporting a reduction in immigration.

The Institute says it believes the poll's results are driven by the impact of population growth on people's qualtiy of life, and also by the rapid change in Australia's ethnic and religious make-up.
