Syrian calligrapher is denied entry to Australia to attend his exhibition

The exhibition Arabic Calligraphic Compositions is by the Syrian artist- Mouneer El Shaarani -an esteemed artist in Europe and the Middle East. Mouneer currently works out of Damascus, where he stands at the forefront of contemporary Arabic calligraphy. Mr Al Shaarani is not able to attend his exhibition as his Temporary Work visa was denied by the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection. The exhibition ARABIC CALLIGRAPHY COMPOSITIONS is held at Mils Gallery in Sydney between March 17 - April 8, 2016 Iman Riman spoke to Mr El Shaarani about his innovative style in Arabic calligraphy and the issue of the visa refusal.
