As Australia receives the first intake of 12,000 Syrian refugees, SBS Radio shares the stories of hope, despite the fear and uncertainty, experienced by Syrians living in a refugee camp in Lebanon.

Many Europeans wonder why so many people fleeing Syria are keen to make the dangerous journey to Europe when there are safe countries just across the border, in Jordan or Lebanon. But those countries are stretched to breaking point coping with the flood of refugees and asylum-seekers.Lebanon now has more refugees per capita than any other country in the world. About one in five people living in Lebanon are refugees from Syria's civil war. Many are experiencing resentment from some locals whose jobs have gone to people so desperate for work theyll accept very low pay.And there are the desperately poor living conditions in the camps.SBS broadcaster Iman Riman visited one of those camps in Lebanon and heard the stories of the women and children there. These are their stories: Anout refugee camp is located south east of Beirut. It is a block of bushland where tents were built to host about 20 Syrian refugee families.  Music composition and performance by: Adnan Baraké, 2014 Syrian Orpheus
