Labor leads the coalition government 54 to 46 in the latest newspoll conducted for The Australian.

The latest Newspoll marks the 50th consecutive loss for the Coalition.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has maintained his lead over Bill Shorten as preferred PM, recording a four point improvement in approval ratings.

Although opposition leader Bill Shorten rose one point to 36, he  is still seven points behind Mr Morrison.
