The Coalition losses again in newspoll but Morrison is preferred as a prime minister

The Coalition suffers its 40th straight Newspoll loss despite Morrison being a more popular leader than predecessor Malcolm Turnbull.


The latest Newspoll shows Scott Morrison has moved ahead of Bill Shorten as preferred prime minister, leading 42 to 36 per cent, and is now a more popular leader than predecessor Malcolm Turnbull.

 But the Coalition remains on track for an election wipeout, notching its 40th straight losing Newspoll.

 The poll, posted in The Australian newspaper,has the Coalition trailing Labor 44-56 on two-party preferred vote.

 The Opposition has lifted its primary vote a further point to 42 per cent after continuing turmoil surrounding the Government.

 The Coalition's primary vote increased one point from 33 to 34 per cent.
