Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Adelaide Archbishop Philip Wilson.

It comes following Wilson's conviction, which he's appealing, for failing to report allegations of child sexual abuse that occurred in the 1970s.
Prime minister Malcolm Turnbull, who has previously urged Wilson to resign, says he welcomes the move.
The outgoing archbishop says he hopes his decision will be a "catalyst to heal pain and distress".
