Prime Minister Scott Morrison is stepping up his attack on federal Opposition leader Bill Shorten on the issue of wages.
Low wage growth is firming as an an issue ahead of this year's federal election.
The opposition is hinting at tweaking industrial laws to drive up wages for low paid workers if it wins government, whilst its allies in the union movement are calling for a 43 dollar a week rise in the minimum wage.
But the business sector is warning wage rises could negatively impact small business, and The Australian newspaper is reporting restaurant and cafe owners are calling for a freeze on the minimum wage.
Mr Morrison says the minimum wage is out of the government's direct control- and the ideas of Mr Shorten and his allies are dangerous.
