According to the RSPCA, the cost of keeping a dog, Australia's most popular pet, is $ 25,000 during the life span of the animal which may be up to 13 years. This includes registration fees with the authorities, food, veterinary care and other services!


Figures show that there are more than 24 million pest in Australia. This means that 62 percent of households keeps an animal at home, which puts Australia at the top of the list of countries that care about pets and consider them part of the family.

Australia has an integrated system of laws that regulate ownership and care of domestic animals. We will learn about some of them in this interview with former mayor of Ashfield, Mr. Morris Mansour. Some of these regulations include the registration of animals with councils and the provision of private shelter. Mr. Mansoor spoke about the cases in which the council is forced to intervene in pet care such as when the animal becomes a problem that disturbs the neighbors or causes risks and harm to those around it
