In April 2016 The Papua New Guinea Supreme Court ruled that it is illegal to keep refugees without charge or trial locked up in Manus Island Detention Centre, but the Australian government has made no announcement or move to close the centre and move the men.

The Supreme Court also asked the Australian Government to provide information by August 4 on how it planned to relocate the people in Manus Island detention centre but did not receive a reply yet.

The Supreme Court is expected to hand down a decision on August 8 to clarify which country is responsible for the men in Manus Island and how to enforce the April decision.

This comes as detainees held a commemoration this week for Kamil Hussain, a detainee who was killed in an accident on Manus.

About these issues, Iman Riman spoke to Samad Al Kaabi, a stateless detainee who was found to be a refugee but is still detained on Manus.
