In their final group stage match at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, New Zealand hammered Bangladesh by 75 runs.

Chasing the Kiwi score of 8/145, Bangladesh’s innings ended at 70 in just 15.4 overs.

Even though Bangladeshi left arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman has been impressive with a five-for, giving away just 22 runs in four overs, it was not good enough to rein in their mighty opponents.
After a shocking defeat against India in their last game, Bangladesh could not find momentum here and played like they were desperate to catch a 30-minute flight from Kolkata to Dhaka as early as possible.

There were a few ‘not-so-good-looking’ records in this game, especially for Bangladesh

Bangladesh finished this World T20 without winning a single game in the Super 10 round. In fact, Bangladesh is yet to find a win in the second round of World T20 history. Bangladesh has reached the second round - Super 10 or Super 8 - three times in the history of World T20: in 2007, 2014 and 2016. Altogether they have played 11 matches in the second rounds, and lost all of them. And what follows - social media came out trolling them.
Of the nine test teams which have played all six World T20s, Bangladesh remains the only team which could never reach the knock-out stage of the tournament. Their best performance is reaching the second round itself.

Last night’s score of 70 is Bangladesh’s lowest total in a T20 international match ever. Their previous lowest was also against New Zealand - 78 in Hamilton in 2010. This is the lowest score in this World T20 too. Incidentally, it came on the Independence Day of Bangladesh.

A new record for the most number of bowled also came in this game. As many as 10 times the stumps flew in Eden Gardens. This is highest ever in a T20 match. The previous record was eight bowled, in four instances. Interestingly, of the 10 bowled, six came during New Zealand’s innings, thanks to the excellent pace bowling by Mustafizur Rahman.

Eden Gardens gifted another embarrassing moment in this game, when the play was halted for 15 odd minutes due to a floodlight failure. It was after 11 overs into Bangladesh batting, when one of the four floodlights went off and the iconic stadium has gone partially dark. It was not the first time. An India-Sri Lanka match was held up for 23 minutes in 2009, when there was a failure of the same floodlight tower.
