Nova studija o obrascima izlaganja svjetlu otkriva uticaj svjetlosti na mentalno zdravlje. Dokazano je da povećanje izloženosti svjetlu tokom dana čini ljude manje osjetljivim na mentalne bolesti, dok povećano izlaganje vještačkom svjetlu noću povećava rizik od psihijatrijskih poremećaja.
