Relationships
The podcast series “I Choose My Freedom” explores various aspects of social cohesion. The war of the 1990s divided the former Yugoslavia, resulting in the creation of seven smaller countries, with deep divisions not only between them but also within them — along ethnic, cultural, and religious lines. Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has always been multicultural, became a symbol of all possible divisions. Even here in Australia, many people of Balkan origin remain deeply divided, feeling safest within their own cultural communities. However, Australia is a multicultural country that, through its diversity, promotes tolerance, respect, and social cohesion. In this podcast, I would also like to highlight many inspiring examples of Bosnians and other peoples who, through marriage, friendship, collegiality, and business — in other words, through love and respect — are building bridges toward others and those who are different.
