Valya Yaninska is a woman who passed through a personal tribulation, which made her change perception of life and become strong enough to do her best to make Bulgarian culture and folklore popular in Australia.
Valya was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, where she graduated as an engineer, but the love of music was to become her destiny not only in Bulgaria (she is a former member of ‘Gotse Delchev’ ensemble in Sofia), but all over the world.
Having settled in Australia, Valya made her way into the folklore scene. A number of Australian organisations frequently invited her to take part in concerts on different occasions, but wherever she went she performed Bulgarian folklore songs filled with love and nostalgia for native Bulgaria.
In a candid interview for the Bulgarian program on SBS Radio in 2009, Valya openly shared her life experience, as well as her passion for the Bulgarian folklore music.
