Australia may face engineering skills crisis

Turnbull government announces replacements for 457 visas. Engineers Australia says "it's been calling for more rigorous testing of the labour market around 457s". In the past, the engineering profession has relied on foreign labour to fill the skills gap. In 2015, Australia graduated 9,850 new engineers but imported 16,487 through permanent and temporary visa holders. Mr Peter Ho, 2016 President of Engineers Australia Queensland Division, comments on how to encourage local students to enter the profession.
