Having said that, Hong Kong and China's markets closed flat without much drama and even those which fell didn't fall as deep as US Dow Jones. All in all, they took a wait and see attitude, waiting for the final outcome of US and China trade negotiation to unfold.
On the other hand, Dow Jones today was a case of direction looking. The background was challenging, like Government shutting down with no sign to reopen, uncertainties of trade negotiation, and business leaders in Davos unleashing comments about losing faith with Donal Trump's trade policy, all these dragged the market down on one hand. But on the other hand, US is in full earning reporting season and there are corporate reports signaling a better than expected performance, giving markets moments of relief.
Therefore we saw Dow Jones very much see-sawing today without much direction.
