Former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has made an extraordinary intervention into the inner machinations of the Liberal Party, a move which could effectively end the political career of a key ally of Tony Abbott.
Mr Turnbull has hit out at any plans to see Liberal MP Craig Kelly avoid a preselection battle for the seat of Hughes in NSW.
The ousted Liberal leader said it was his “strong view” the party’s democratic process should operate in the normal way.
