联邦卫生部长利苏珊表示，今年私人医疗保险的保费将会增加5.59%，强调已经为国民争取最低加幅。
一月，利苏珊要求私人医保公司就加保费的问题重新提交申请，并关注整个申请过程未能使政府掌握私人医保公司的财政状况。
当中22间澳洲医人医保公司在重新提交申请时降低加幅。
利苏珊表示，私人医保的保费增长率，平均每年为6.1%，今年的加幅已经是四年内最低。
利苏珊在声明中表示：「全体消费者节省1.25亿元，一个家庭的综合医院及普通保险每年节省166元。」
在现行法例下，私人医保公司要加保费，必须获联邦卫生部长批准。
新保费在4月1日起实施。
上个财政年度，有大约50万名澳洲人放弃买私人医保，部分原因是保费过高难以负担。
