To be stuffed, 字面意思是吃太饱,撑得有点难受了。
不过,在澳洲和英国口语里,他还有其他几种意思,比如形容很累、精疲力尽了,甚至是糟糕了,麻烦大了。
所以,你会经常在各种情境下,听到这个说法。
当你吃的太撑时:
- I'm stuffed after that huge lunch!
或者当你遇到麻烦,感觉不妙时,你可以说:
- I'm stuffed if I don't finish this report on time.
当你电量耗光,精疲力竭时:
- I'm stuffed after looking after my niece all day – she has so much energy!
当某样东西坏了或没法用了,你可以说:
- I dropped my phone and now it's stuffed.
如果你感觉工作或任务太多太忙了,你也可以说:
- I'm stuffed this week with all these deadlines.
