The international advocacy group, Amnesty International, has warned Australia must improve its human rights record if it wants to win a seat on the United Nations Human Rights Council. Australia's record of sending asylum seekers to Nauru and Manus Island in Papua New Guinea, mandatory immigration detention, boat push-backs and increasing Indigenous imprisonment rates have been criticised by the group in its annual report.
