Ante Jurić, the long-term president of the group calling itself the Australian Croatian Association Melbourne, was recently appointed to the Croatian Government Advisory Council for Croats Abroad. In an interview with SBS, he says preserving the Croatian language and culture in Australia will be his priority in the new role. He dismisses criticism over his organisation’s celebration of the WWII Croatian state and its leader Ante Pavelić. Mr Jurić also claims to have a close working relationship with Zvonko Milas, who heads the State Office for Croats Abroad, and with Croatia’s president, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.
