It was reported that ambassador Telar wanted to join the SPLM IO, but he denied that in this interview. Ambassador Telar said he is ‘not resigning from the Government but the ambassador to Russia’. Telar mentioned the challenges he and his staff were facing in Russia. The ambassador said he and the embassy staff have not paid for over 10 months.
"IThe chain of communication between the President, Minister and the Diplomates is not working well. I last met South Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Deng Alor Kuol in March of 2017, and we have not communicated since. When Trump came to power, the number of resolutions being tabled at the UN reduced and maybe they don't need to talk to us again. In the last few days, Ambassador Nikki has been talking, and maybe that is when we may be needed."
Since ambassador Telar left Russia, he has been in East Africa for two months, and he said no one from the Ministry or the Presidency asked him. When he submitted his resignation on 25/01/2018, the Presidency immediately directed the South Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and International cooperation to recall Telar to Juba within 72 hours for consultation urgently. Ambassador Telar said that he would go to Juba but not within the time frame mentioned in the Minister’s letter.
“Yes, the letter from the Minister mentioned 72 hours but they have not even sent any ticket to me. I will be going to Juba but not at the time of 72 hours. Juba is our home, and I have not resigned from the Government. I am trying to talk to some friends so that my children can go to their schools first.”
