"A language is a vehicle on which our culture and heritage rides. It is important that we do everything to preserve our languages." - Richard Simcott

Sleeping Beauties, or Dreaming beauties, is the designation by some Aboriginal people of their extinct languages or languages on the verge of extinction.

In many Aboriginal cultures languages don't die. They simply go to sleep and can be awakened. This has been done successfully in other parts of the world and some Indigenous Australian languages are being brought back to life.

“It is a matter for each community to decide whether they want to revive their language or not.” - Richard Simcott.
