There are many challenges to health care in Indonesia, not just the pandemic. There are challenges in mental health, health of the disabled, nutrition, medical supplies and equity of access to care. How has Indonesia’s COVID-19 experience impacted on these and other areas and might the experience actually lead to reform?

Indonesia Update conferences have a reputation for effectively presenting ideas and opinions about issues in Indonesia.  The theme of Indonesia Update 2021 is “In sickness and in health: diagnosing Indonesia.”  Economist Dr Firman Witoelar from the Australian National University and demographer Dr Ariane Utomo from Melbourne University are the conference convenors.  They explain to Sri Dean what they hope the conference outcomes will be.
